Project cultures of anticipation now closed

With my latest publication, “Sensing the Future in Contemporary Anglophone Literature” https://doi.org/10.1353/ari.2024.a915992, my research project on cultures of anticipation is now closed for the time being.

The project, which I started in 2017, has been focusing on analysing how different cultures in the early modern period and in the 21st century shaped a liminal concept of futurity – of developing a relationship to a time in, for and from the future – in different media. The project has produced three publications: my book chapter on cultures of anticipation in Interregnum England (in German), which worked with case studies from political and astrological / astronomical publications from the 17th century (2021), an article on playing the future in the computer game “Horizon: Zero Dawn” (2021) and lastly, the above cited publication in ariel.

I have learned a lot through this project, and would like to thank everyone who helped me with discussions, review, research, editing and invitations to give papers. I would especially like to thank Andreas Langenohl and Leslie Adelson for sparking my interest in anticipation and futurity.
